About the Speaker:
Dr. Amreek Singh, Scientist ‘G’ is working at Defence Geo-informatics Research Establishment (DGRE) – Chandigarh, a laboratory under Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO). He joined DRDO in 1997 and presently he is head of Avalanche Forecasting Division of DGRE.
He obtained M.Sc (Mathematics) degree from GB Pant University & Technology, Pantnagar (India) and PhD from Indian Institute of Technology – Roorkee (India). His research interests include predictive modeling and development of decision support systems for strategic defence applications and for geo-hazard mitigation with specialization in avalanche forecasting using state-of-the-art techniques of machine learning, statistics, numerical optimization and accelerated computing. At DGRE, he led the development of ‘SnowCOP’ application, which is now mainstay for avalanche hazard assessment at zonal scale in Indian Himalaya.
He has to his credit a number of research papers published in International and national journals of repute.
He was also a member of 17th Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica to study surface characteristics of ice shelf during Antarctic summer of 1997-1998.
He is life-member of India Meteorological Society, Soft Computing Research Society, Indian Society of Remote Sensing, and Society of Cryospheric Sciences.
